A TRUE MVP

4/21/2018

Today I taught a volunteers, leaders, and support staff workshop for a church. I taught what a true MVP is. The letters MVP do not stand for Most Visible Player. The letters MVP stand for Most Valuable Player.

The pastors and leaders upfront, on stage, and others who are the most visible to the congregation and community are the Most Visible Players but those in the room today are the Most Valuable Players. If we remove them, it all falls apart. We see and recognize the value of what they do as volunteers, leaders, and support staff. Without speaking to the Sr. Pastor, who also taught the same workshop today and did not hear my segment, he communicated the same thing.

I showed the before picture of my shoulder break. The right side of the shoulder is sticking way out instead of being smooth like the rest of the upper humerus. The bone is not only broken away but it is full of all sorts of fractures & cracked like an eggshell.

I showed the after picture from my surgery a few weeks ago. I told them the Most Valuable Players are the screws and washers buried beneath the surface of my shoulder holding it all together. The Most Valuable Players in my shoulder are not the most visible. In fact they are not visible at all. It takes a specialist or doctor to recognize it. If I were to pull my shirt back, they would not see the screws and washers. The screws and washers are not visible or The Most Visible Players but THEY ARE THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS in my shoulder. If I pull the screws and washers out, it all falls apart.

You are valuable, even if your not visible. The right people recognize it. In fact, sometimes its the invisible that makes you indivisible, just ask the Holy Spirit.

THE FUN GUY & A WAR ON STDs

4/18/2018

Playing with the idea for a school sex ed class/program (upgradestudents.com, upgradefaith.com), youth sermon or discussion, small book for teens, or further blog about STDs called THE FUN GUY.

Centers for Disease Control say STDs are at an all time high. Ladies be carful when you want the Fun Guy, you might end up with the Fungi or guys be careful when you want to be the Fun Guy, you might end up with the Fungi. Some Fungi or STDs can be deadly or create a lifetime of discomfort.

President Trump in his past said avoiding STDs was his own personal Vietnam & he considers himself a great and brave soldier. Too bad, none of the 16 GOP candidates who ran against him were clever enough to ask him at the debates if he considered himself a “war hero” (John McCain) then referenced CDC, sex ed, & schools. This is not a political statement, party preference, or candidate preference but I am highlighting that the POTUS does have a role in disease control & no candidate was clever enough to tie that to his “war hero” statement about John McCain.

STDs are a big part of disease control & the POTUS has a big part to play presiding over the CDC. With everything happening now, Trump should launch a War on STDs. It would help him weather this storm. If he was to launch a War on STDs and we saw a decline, he could actually become a real war hero, redeem a little from past mistakes, set a new tone for America’s youth, and win respect. We can teach the uprising generation not to rush-in to these things, even if they are Russian.

I have another thought about drug testing & our Lady Liberty being way to flexible on drugs that she must be double jointed but this blog is not meant to knock 2 birds out with one stone. The drug blog & Reagan's D.A.R.E is for another time. Needless & needle-less to say, we need recovery and to pray for America.

Let’s pray that Pence pencils this in on his daily prayer list at the White House. It is so important to have the right No. 2.

MICHAIAH CONVINCED MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. IS ONE OF MY FRIENDS

4/10/2018

Today Michaiah, my 5-year old came into our home office and gave me this book to read. It was the book he picked from the school library. He told me I need to read it because it was good. At dinner he was convinced that Martin Luther King Jr. was one of my friends. I told him that those are the type of people I like to hang out with.

He stood on his chair and gave us a speech on how he is taking a stand for peace. He said it was wrong how all the white kids got to go to schools that had playgrounds but all the black kids didn’t have playgrounds at their school. He told us how Martin Luther King Jr. was put in jail because of the color of his skin and how it was not right for black people and black kids to be treated in such bad ways while the white people and white kids were treated good and got to have fun.

Martin Luther King Jr was 35 when he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. As my wife & I talked with our kids around the table we asked ourselves the question “What kinds of things do 35 year olds do today?” The conclusion was “computer stuff”. I talked to each of my kids individually at dinner & collectively. I told them that in their life and in the life of the McD Family we need to always make sure we stand for justice and take a stand for others who are victims of injustice. I told them more than anything in life, I want them to commit their life to making the world a better place and stand up for others who can’t stand for themselves. Then both Michaiah & Aaliyah both stood on their chairs and gave their own I Have A Dream speech.
